How You Can Gain 3 Days Worth of Time In A Single Day

A framework to get more out of your time

TWT Newsletter #3

I’ve been getting a lot of great feedback from our amazing readers. The feedback that was recurring the most was about going in-depth on productivity tools and time management frameworks I use. So I am going to introduce the framework I’ve learned to produce 3 days worth of work in a single day.

Like workout tips from someone at the gym, this framework/exercise should be tried and understood that it may or may not be a fit for you.

Let’s get started.

Groundwork

There is some preface and groundwork that needs to be done first.

I don’t start my day like all the millionaires and gurus you see online. I wake up at 9AM happy and ready to start my day without a cold shower. The reason is it fits with my circadian rhythm and more importantly when my energy levels and productivity are at the highest. My energy and productivity is higher during the afternoon. And most of my best ideas happen at night.

This is something that you have to find for yourself. Observe your energy throughout the day to find the optimal times. We all have moments during the day where we’re naturally more energetic, focused, and productive than others. You should schedule your focused time during these times, you’ll naturally get more out of them.

The next is understanding that we can only focus and do deep work for 2-4 hours within a day. So to optimize for this time of dedicated focus, you must eliminate distractions. Turn off notifications, limit context switching, and social media usage. Create an environment that is conducive to your task.

Now without further ado.

The 3-Day-in-1-Day Framework

The first time I heard about this idea was from one of my favorite motivational speaker’s book, The Power Of One More By Ed Mylett. Ed is one of my role models, who is extremely successful in his real estate and business ventures. This technique sounded too good to be true, but I knew he knew something I didn’t, so I had to try this out for myself!

I was living in New York City at the time and working in pacific time (my businesses and work were operating on the west coast). It was a perfect opportunity for me to try this framework, while adding some of my own refinements through trial and error.

My simple breakdown of the framework to acquire 3 days within a day is:

  1. Creating 3 separate time blocks within your day

  1. Deciding a theme and role for each time block

  1. Taking long breaks in between

These 3 time-blocks are key and should only take 2-4 hours of your day. The reason is because studies have shown that human beings can deep focus for 2-4 hours at a time. Anymore and you’ll reach knowledge/decision-making fatigue. To expand this, long breaks and time separation are necessary for you to recover and tackle the next block. Deciding a theme and role to play is used to maximize the blocks of time as if it was a new day. As well as stimulating your mind by being a different character thats best fits the time block.

For each block, describe a theme and a role you will fill in this block of time. Your job is to role play as best you can. Be imaginative before starting and visualize the character you must play. This has served me well when utilizing this framework.

Here’s an example of the framework. My schedule looked like this:

The purpose of these blocks is to illustrate highlights of your day. You want to make sure you are intentional and executing your 3 biggest tasks. Understand each block is a “day” worth of time when you deep focus for 2-4 hours. Utilizing role play like an actor in your own movie you jump into “another day” and execute another role for the subsequent blocks. If someone asked me about my day with the above example I would highlight - I networked with 3 people in real estate, analyzed and submitted 5 real estate offers (1 got approved), went on a fantastic date, and recorded 2 hour of content for a course!

Hopefully you’re energized to try this out for yourself. This is an awesome framework to get more out of your day. I use it daily to execute on 3 big tasks I need to complete, but you must execute and take action within these time blocks. Be effective with your time to stay on track. Make sure each time block is leveraged to a task or theme that is worth giving. Make this a daily habit that’s apart of your system, and it will take you one step closer to your long term goals. Remember consistency is key and I’ll leave you with this quote for thought.

The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine.
