You Get What You Focus On

So focus on what you want

TWT Newsletter #12

I used to think that working harder would get me closer to my goals. I realize years ago through long hours, all-nighters, and some painful breakdowns that it's not the case.

A takeaway is that every breakdown leads to a breakthrough with the right mindset.

Doing the work and being more intentional will take you closer to your goals; it increases your chances of success. But becomes less effective as you meet resistance on your way to achieve your financial goals.

The best way is to align and focus on your target goal. You must be so aligned and focus on your goal that every cell in your body is pointing towards your goal. When you are so focused, you will start to take more action.

This is what I call inspired action. Action that looks like work to others, but is just fun or something you would do above all else.

Focus on the Right Things

“We need to focus on the right things, rather than attending to the wrong things around us.”

- Mozammel Khan

In today’s world, our attention and focus are valuable assets and our worst enemy when used incorrectly. In a world filled with cheap dopamine and so many options, we are easily pulled into many different paths. That is why 4 hours of deep focused work daily will beat 8 hours of busy work every day of the week.

Furthermore, we think working hard on all these things will make us happy and successful. Spreading ourselves too thin. Because we think doing more will lead to “better” results. We get sucked into the daily hustle and bustle and forget what our end game is.

As time passes, you realize you're not getting the results you want. Leading to more resistance and potential breakdown. This is when you need to step back and reflect. Realize your level of intent may be split by your focus.

To reach the next level, you may need new levels of focus on the right things.

This requires more self awareness. Think and expand deeply on what you want. Then work backwards from those answers and align them with your core values and strengths. Do these two things repetitively and it will allow you to become more focused.

Another tip for more alignment and focus, I ask a fundamental question to myself - From the things I can choose from; I will only commit my energy to things that I can do forever. Steal this framework and use it if you are feeling lost or misaligned. Play games with yourself that you know you can play the long game.

This inevitably will allow you to win the long game and reach your desired eng game. Whether it be in investing, or writing newsletters, or even playing the guitar.

If you focus on something so hard over a long time horizon, it would be impossible to fail. That is why you should focus on what you want and that in turn will get you to the life you want.

That has always been the case for me. When I commit to something, I give it my all. My focus and attention, and nothing will get in my way. Focus becomes an obsession. Like me, use your past experiences and unfair advantages to create systems and processes that will help you stay in for the long haul.

If you know you can't do that, then don’t even start. This is how you avoid shiny object syndrome and remain focused. More focus equals more success and wealth.
